Make Better Decisions This Year

There is a popular saying that goes, "Man is a creature of habit." While this statement may have merit, consider for a moment the reality that man is not a creature of habit but a creature of choice. Man makes decisions based upon his or her feelings and emotions, or based upon the knowledge or information he or she receives, and those decisions if practiced for a while become habitual.

We are not mere animals who cannot decide our actions, our thoughts, or our pursuits. We can choose!

Our choices have created our experiences and our reality, and if we do not like the experiences we are having, we can decide to go another way, at will. This is powerful! We can actually change our lives, starting right now, by deciding to. If we have gained the necessary knowledge and know-how, we can purpose in our hearts to do what we need to do in order to get results we truly desire. In the Bible, God Himself spoke of our ability to decide by making the following powerful statement: "I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live." (See Deuteronomy 30:19) That is a life-changing truth, and it would do us good to pay attention to it.

We have the right and ability to decide, and while that is an awesome thing, it also comes with a tremendous degree of responsibility. For with each decision we may make, comes either some reward and blessing, or some consequence, hurt, or punishment. Perhaps. this is why many aim to let others do all of the thinking for them, and to tell them what to do, what to say, or how to act. But even if you do not choose by yourself, deciding to go by the opinions of others is still a decision, and it is still your decision. You choose to go that route.

The key to being successful in this life and the next is to make choices that lead to better. Spiritually, making the decision to make Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior would be the best decision you can make. It prepares you for the life to come. Living for Christ is the part to true and eternal success.

Then, living by principles (many of them found in the Book of Proverbs) will enable you to enjoy success and enjoy life. Make this year a year when you will make better decisions. Your life is worth it. Life can be better for you. You can be better, have better, and do better. It's all about choices!
